The plot is based on multiple true accounts of recent grain entrapment accidents. Since last August, more than 20 farmers have died after breaking through the crust and essentially drowning inside their grain-filled bin. In the months since, the grain has formed a top crust that can give a farmer the appearance that it's safe. The safety concerns are caused by corn that went into the bins at higher-than-recommended moisture levels. For some, however, the memories linger in the form of potentially unsafe grain stored in private grain bins.
